Anberlin side-project Anchor & Braille’s gripping, hypnotic “In with the New”

Anchor & Braille is the side project of Stephen Christian, lead singer of fairly well-known Christian alt-rock band Anberlin.  The project’s debut album, 2009′s Felt [read my review], was a relaxed and vulnerable approach to indie pop-rock that struck chords in most of those who heard it.

Now Anchor & Braille will tackle the ever-elusive sophomore record on July 31 with The Quiet Life, which contains the single, “Goes Without Saying,” which we heard at the beginning of July, as well as this one.  The appropriately-titled “In with the New” is a gripping, hypnotic piece that draws upon the repetitive, slightly-dancey beats that are being used to such great effect in indie pop right now, adding in elements of electronica and some vocal effects that make Christian nearly unrecognizable.  Surprisingly, it all adds up to a great track.  Listen below.
