I think I may just have found one of my future favorite bands.
Fresh London group Temples only have four songs on their Soundcloud account, but three of them are worthy of being named our Song of the Day. Unfortunately, that would make for quite a crowd, so I’m putting Temples in our About to Break section, assuming that there’s no way that this kind of talent can go overlooked for long.
Judging by the bands that Temples have liked, they seem to be inspired by other acts that The Tune likes, including Clock Opera, HAIM, and artists on Sub Pop Records. I also detect a little Electric Guest in here. In any case, Temples have a very 2012 sound that draws from many past influences like psychedelia, classic rock, and ’90s Britpop à la Suede.
“The Golden Throne” is a driving, lyric-centered tune that is the clear highlight of the bunch, but don’t stop there: “Keep in the Dark” swings with a comedic horror vibe and features an addictively catchy chorus, while “Shelter Song” is more towards the pop-rock side of things and “The Guesser” sneaks in moments of zen between the layers of a Strawberry Alarm Clock vibe. I love all four songs. These guys have a bright future.
