I cannot conceive of a possible future where Bebe Black does not break into pop music in a huge way. The British singer is blessed with a voice as dynamic and enormous as Adele‘s, as bluesy and emotive as Amy Winehouse‘s, and as perfectly suited to pop music as Elly Jackson’s (of La Roux). On top of that, her songwriting is wonderful, as we heard on last year’s “I’ll Wait.”
And now the singer is giving away a 3-song EP, Live from the Black Lion Sessions, which you can download in exchange for info by following the link. The clear highlight of the EP is “Deathwish,” an enormous song that takes elements of Adele and Florence + the Machine but is, in the end, clearly something different — Bebe Black. It begins with a lone piano, and crescendos to an epic conclusion by slowly adding drums, synths, and a soulful choir over its astounding 4:22.
I’m in love. I can’t wait to see where Bebe Black goes from here — this is as exciting a singer as I’ve heard in awhile. Hear “Deathwish” while it’s fresh below and check out Bebe on Facebook.
