Afrolove: The Black Seeds fuse dub, Afrobeat, and soul on “Pippy Pip” [MP3]

Although I spend every day describing music for people, I just couldn’t place my finger on this one immediately, though I knew I liked it.  One look at Wikipedia cleared up the influences for New Zealand collective The Black Seeds — their music is “a fusion of dub, funk, Afrobeat and soul.”  It’s just as interesting as it sounds.

The band has been together since 2001, and they just released their fifth studio album, Dust and Dirt, on April 8.  This is one of the cuts from that album, a chill, plinking, soulful song that feels all too short even at nearly four minutes in length.
