Arizona’s Calexico drive down a straight and steady road on “Splitter”

Arizona band Calexico, known for their work with Iron & Wine on the 2005 EP In the Reins, as well as for receiving an 8.0+ rating from Pitchfork for nearly every single release, have announced a new album called Algiers for September 11.  It will be their seventh proper full-length (excluding soundtracks), and back at the beginning of June we heard the first single, the soaring “Para.”

The second song to surface from Algiers is called “Splitter,” and it’s a steady indie rock song that feels like it’s driving somewhere on a very straight road and taking its sweet time getting there.  But in 3.5 minutes, “Splitter” never reaches its destination, adding only a few brassy riffs before it fades out into the distance, still searching for its home.  Listen below.
