Brooklyn art-pop group Dirty Projectors‘ last album, 2009′s Bitte Orca, was critically acclaimed, but like an of Montreal album it didn’t try to be pretty — in fact, its sounds bordered on abrasive often enough that I’ve barely listened to it in three years.
But I’m falling all over the band’s newest track, “Gun Has No Trigger,” which uses choral female back-up vocals and an unobtrusive beat to focus the listener’s attention on the lyrics. And it works because those lyrics are truly poetic, both thoughtful and captivating, and delivered earnestly by singer David Longstreth. Give the song a listen and a download below.
