Austra’s layered, gorgeous version of Radiohead’s “Paranoid Android”

Toronto native Katie Stelmanis, a.k.a. Austra, has been riding on the strength of her wonderfully eclectic indie pop debut album, 2011′s Feel It Break, for over a year now, gaining many new fans during the time.  Fresh material has appeared slowly but surely, including a great cover song and a bonus track, and now a new studio recording from Stelmanis has popped up on a tribute album for Radiohead‘s 1997 masterpiece OK Computer.

The album was put together by German magazine MusikExpress, and it contains this gorgeous interpretation of “Paranoid Android.”  Austra utilizes electronic beats, endlessly-layered vocals, and a nearly industrial tone to make the song her own but keep the original’s sense of alienation intact.  You gotta hear this.  Listen below.
