British artist CoMa’s acoustic take on H.I.M.’s “Right Here in My Arms” [MP3]

Last time we heard from British lo-fi experimentalist CoMa was on her cover version of “Sally’s Song” from Nightmare Before Christmas… and before that it was a cover of Radiohead’s “Fake Plastic Trees.”  Now she has a spare, acoustic take on Finnish Goth-rock masters H.I.M.‘s 2000 tune “Right Here in My Arms.”  So to recap, that’s a cover of a musical, a critically-renowned experimental rock band, and a niche group that are oft considered pop-metal.  If nothing else, Nicole Briggs has exceedingly diverse taste in music.

Anyway, her cover of “Right Here in My Arms” tones down the carnal sadism of the original in favor of an aural depth that brings out the aching self-hatred of the song’s narrator (“She keeps on crying/ But I won’t leave her alone”).  It’s a great listen, especially for fans of H.I.M.’s earlier material, like myself.  And you can download it for free too!  Get on that shit.
