Colorful, sprawling psych rock by Tame Impala: “Apocalypse Dreams” [MP3]

Australian psychedelic rock group Tame Impala, whose 2010 debut Innerspeaker was one of the year’s best rock records, will release an album called Lonerism later this year.  The first official single, “Elephant,” will be out later this month, but the band have released a teaser track called “Apocalypse Dreams” for streaming and download (if you supply an email address) in a widget, which we’ve posted below.

The song suits its title.  It’s a fuzzy, swirling concoction that feels like sipping a smoothie while on wondrous and sense-enhancing drugs, and at six minutes in length, it’s got plenty of time to sprawl all over your brain — just like the best tracks on Innerspeaker.  Get ready for an experience: headphones are necessary, beautiful weather helps, and an altered state of consciousness is recommended.  Enjoy!
