We’ve been talkin’ Mississippi indie pop band Dent May for nearly a year, giving their song “Wedding Day” a Gold rating last August and hyping “Best Friend” earlier this year, but it’s just over the last few months that Pitchfork — and therefore, the rest of the internet — has started to catch on to their breezy, summery pop music. That’s one reason that you read The Tune (we hope)!
Anyway, now Dent May have released a cover of the 1978 Grateful Dead disco hit “Shakedown Street,” one of my favorite tunes by the band. The tune remains extremely faithful to the original — the ’10s indie pop production is just about the only thing that separates it from the original. I would’ve liked to see the band do more in the way of reinterpretation, but it’s still a fun cover. I’ll take any excuse to listen to “Shakedown Street” on repeat. Download below!
