Electric Eel: CoMa’s ghostly “Do Not Go Gentle into That Good Night” [MP3]

As a literature major and a huge fan of poetry, this track drew my eye to it immediately.  CoMa is a singer-songwriter and electronic producer named Nicole Briggs, and on this ghostly, glitchy track she samples a reading of Dylan Thomas’ famous villanelle “Do Not Go Gentle into That Good Night” by Anthony Hopkins, to chilling effects.

The singer also adds softly-spoken vocals of her own creation, and the deep-voiced Anthony Hopkins juxtaposes excellently with Briggs’ gossamer intonations.  Listen to the track and download it for free below, and read the lyrics after the stream.

CoMa – “Do Not Go Gentle into That Good Night” lyrics

“Rage, rage against the dying of the light
Curse, bless me now with your fierce tears, I pray.
Do not go gentle into that good night
Rage, rage against the dying of the light”

I can feel it drawing near
I can smell the growing fear
I can taste it in the air
Long after you’re not there

My voice just echoes off of all these empty walls
I’m surrounded
My voice just echoes off of all these empty walls
I’m surrounded

And who am I?

And you cannot get in here anymore – I said
You cannot get in here anymore – my head
You cannot get in here anymore – I said
I am full of nothing…

And you cannot get in here anymore – I said
You cannot get in here anymore – my head
You cannot get in here anymore – I said
‘Cause I am full of nothing…

“Curse, bless me now with your fierce tears, I pray
Do not go gentle into that good night
Rage, rage against the dying of the light”
