As pop-punk and emo-style music have faded to the background of America’s musical consciousness, so have My Chemical Romance — their last album, 2010′s Danger Days, barely impacted the Top 10 and didn’t generate a true hit. In the two years since that release, the band has barely seen a headline.
So what does that have to do with an Electric Eel article? Well, believe it or not, deadmau5 is most likely more popular than My Chem now, but the Canadian DJ nevertheless employed Gerard Way (singer of My Chem) to whine-up the hooks on the new deadmau5 single, “Professional Griefers,” which isn’t set for a true release until the beginning of September.
The song is an aggressive electropop/dance fist-pumper, and it’s definitely more mainstream than most of deadmau5′s past singles, which sets him up to truly impact the Billboard charts for the first time. It’s not the best piece of music ever recorded, but it’s definitely fun. And I miss My Chemical Romance’s glory days. So listen to a radio rip below and decide whether you’re disgusted by the collab or in love with it.
