Electric Eel: frozen synthpop from Silent Rider, “I Was a Bomb” [MP3]

Silent Rider is the alias of Brooklyn producer Reed Kackley, who goes “full-on cinematic,” as RCRD LBL puts it, with his new tune “I Was a Bomb.”  The song is frozen electropop with an unsettling aura around it, the kind that invokes computerized annihilation — like the song’s lyrics are actually being written by the computer core of a bomb.

But Kackley’s emotive vocals ground the tune and keep it from exploding, which works both to its advantage and disadvantage.  For although “I Was a Bomb” is a great track, some puzzle piece seems to be missing from the final product, a puzzle piece that could’ve elevated it from enjoyable electropop to Song of the Week.  Listen and download for free below.
