“My hesitation/ It’s become the death of me,” British folk singer Dave Gerard emotes to open his band the Watchmen’s wonderful new three-minute tune “Hesitate.” Needless to say, it’s a rather morose tune — but a striking one. ”I tried to be so careful/ Tried to be so thoughtful/ But you never/ And I tried to be so patient/ Spend my nights just waiting,” he sings later over tender acoustic instrumentation that recalls City and Colour, and by the second listen I was infatuated.
