Go Folk Yourself: Passenger’s mature, thoughtful “Let Her Go” [MP3]

Not a whole lot of people know singer-songwriter Brett Dennen‘s standout 2006 debut single “Ain’t No Reason,” but I’ve always loved the song for its mature, thoughtful lyrics that seem to speak many truths about life.  And those are the same reasons that I’m falling for the new single from Brighton, U.K. neo-folk outfit Passenger.

“Let Her Go” philosophizes over pop-friendly acoustic guitars with panache, and I’m absorbed by the lyrics: “You only need the light when it’s burning low/ Only miss the sun when it starts to snow/ Only miss your lover when you let her go/ Only know you’ve been high when you’re feeling low/ Only hate the road when you’re missing home.”  Listen to this one many times.  Thanks to Side One Track Two for the MP3.
