“Just take a good hard look at yourself,” California-based pop songwriter/singer/amazing dancer Jhameel suggests with the first line of his newest song, “Are You Free.” The song is an introspective look at life through the lens of an electropop tune that is noticeably busier than most of Jhameel’s other work. It’s still beat-driven, but now Jhameel seems to be exploring other modes of expression besides dance-oriented pop.
I’m not sure that I love it — yet — but it’s definitely a great new tune. ”Are You Free” kicks off a new series of releases from Jhameel, where he’ll drop a new song every Tuesday for five consecutive weeks.
