Next #1 Hit: Maroon 5′s swaggering, catchy new single “One More Night”

I keep seeing writers refer to Maroon 5‘s upcoming fourth album Overexposed as their “new sound,” but really, they sound pretty much like the same Maroon 5 from the last album or two to me.  They’ve always been a dance-oriented pop-rock band, but with each album Maroon 5 have evolved into more of a pop band and less of a rock band, while always attempting to utilize the type of dance beats that are popular in the moment.  The songs we’ve heard from Overexposed are no different, and they don’t represent a truly “new” sound from the band.

And while they may be pop songs, they’re still a hell of a lot of fun.  ”Payphone” is definitely one of the songs of the summer, and it seems the second single from the album will be the catchy, swaggering “One More Night,” the album’s opener.  ”I cross my heart and I hope to die/ But I only stay with you one more night/ And I know I said it a million times/ But I’ll only stay with you one more night” functions as the song’s chorus, and it continues the I-just-keep-coming-back-to-you theme of just about every song on Overexposed.  Seems Adam has something he might want to tell us… maybe about Christina?  Anyway, listen below.
