Song of the Day: Passion Pit “Take a Walk” on stomping, anthemic new single

Massachusetts electropop band Passion Pit‘s debut album Manners has had a surprisingly long shelf life for me.  After I originally dismissed it with a “B-” grade when it dropped in mid-2009, it randomly started playing through my earbuds as I was walking through the supermarket at the end of the year, and I realized how great it was.  My fiancée also fell in love with it, and we saw the band open for Muse in 2010 in Denver’s Pepsi Center.  They were great.

But this new one is even better.  The band will release their sophomore album, Gossamer, on July 24, and this lead single has got me in stitches — I think it could be one of the best releases of the year.  ”Take a Walk” is a stomping, arena-sized synthpop tune that sounds even more like MGMT‘s Oracular Spectacular than the band’s previous material.  The chorus transforms the simple, wonderful process of “taking a walk” into an anthemic call to the heavens, and it would sit perfectly on a playlist between Cults‘ “Go Outside” and Empire of the Sun‘s “Walking on a Dream.”  I love it.  I love it I love it I love it.  Listen below.
