Song of the Day: The Deadly Syndrome’s “Whatever Comes Our Way [MP3]

“Whatever Comes Our Way” is the first single from August 7′s All in Time, the self-released third LP from L.A. indie/alternative band The Deadly Syndrome.  We first heard the promo single “Spirit of the Stairs” back in May, but this one is head-turning.  It alternates acoustic and electric sections alongside uplifting, open-armed lyrics… and I absolutely love it.  Pitchfork says:

This open-hearted, tuneful electro-acoustic strummer sounds like a welcome resolution between the emotional poles set up on their previous two albums, the exuberant, synth-spiked The Ortolan and 2010′s dejected but affecting Nolens Volens. There was a lot of this sort of thing populating L.A. in the middle of the past decade– some of it was called “blog rock,” many of its practitioners considered the next big thing, and pretty much all of it dull as hell– but the Deadly Syndrome proudly and rightfully sound like the last band standing.
