Song of the Day: The Presets grow up on glorious sailor song “Ghosts” [MP3]

Australian synthpop duo The Presets have dropped a new song from their third LP Pacifica, due for release on September 14.  It’s half sailor song and half indie pop, a gloriously catchy tune that reminisces about the rock ‘n’ roll lifestyle (“Oh, we’ve had a merry old time/ But merry old times don’t count for nothin’/ Cocaine, song, and women and wine”) and asks for assistance in growing up and becoming a more mature person (“Help me up, move right left foot forward”).

And then there’s the sea shanty background vocals.  Together, the subject matter and vocals strongly recall the The Rosebuds‘ “Silja Line (On Settling for a Normal Life)” — but from a different perspective.  I love this one.  Thanks to Best New Tracks for the MP3.
