I’ve been all over Philly indie pop group Potpourri of Pearls since discovering the little-known band back in March. The last time we heard from them was the captivating and chilly musical sketch “Diamond Harbor,” one of my favorite songs of 2012 so far, but that was back at the beginning of July.
Now Potpourri of Pearls have a new song & video which went up on YouTube a few days back. ”Gonna Stop” is a simple pop song with an insightful hook: “I’m gonna stop hurting you/ For not loving me the way I want you to/ I’m gonna stop hurting you/ Cause when I do, I’m hurting myself.” I love the minimalist electro-pop, but the unrelated spoken injections in the video, which are grating and annoying against the smooth backdrop of “Gonna Stop,” nearly ruin the song for me. Give us the non-video edit so we can actually enjoy the track by itself, guys!
