Wavves turn down the noise and turn up the ’90s on “Hippies Is Punks” [MP3]

Nathan Williams’ Wavves haven’t been too active this year, but the noisy surf rock band is contributing a single to the always-worth-hearing Adult Swim Singles Program.  Its awesome title is “Hippies Is Punks,” a sentiment I completely agree with, and the loud-loud-LOUD noise has been toned down in favor of ’90s-ish production techniques.  I like it, but I don’t love it.  Hear the song for yourself below, and download it for free while you’re here.

Wavves will likely release a new album in 2013, and Williams had this to say about it:

Been working on these songs for so long…kinda nervous. Throughout the whole creative process there was no label involvement. John, Stephen and I payed for the record ourselves. We had no time limit, no person telling us we needed a single. Once we were done we took it around and let labels listen to and bid on a finished product. 100% ours, no changes. The music business is so much different now and that shouldn’t have to be a bad thing.
