Wolves in the Throne Room’s sludgy, haunting metal: “Woodland Cathedral”

I don’t usually post music like this on The Tune, but this song by ambient black metal band Wolves in the Throne Room, who hail from Olympia, Washington, just wouldn’t let itself be ignored.  Featuring heavy, sludgy chords that almost feel like they’re being played in slow motion, the song slowly crescendos behind a church organ and chilling, falsetto vocals that invoke the castrati of medieval Italy.  This one will hurt right down to the bones.
